About Springmeadow Bengals

This page last updated 5 September, 2007

While visiting a GCCF cat show in 1998, we saw and 'met' our very first Bengal.  We spent most of our time there talking with the Bengal cat owners - asking them if we could play with their gorgeous cats and asking them questions, questions and more questions!  Shortly thereafter, we brought home our first Bengal cat pictured below.  Tammy (Starwinds Radience) an F4 female descended from the ALC Kabuki and Millwood Mirror Mirror.

Since that time, we have carefully selected and nurtured our top-pedigree Bengal Queens and premier Studs to form the foundation of our Bengal family.  Sisco, our Brown Marbled Stud (as seen below), has already won 24 ICs and was the NATIONAL WINNER 2004 in his highly successful show career at the GCCF and has now achieved the highest accolade of SUPREME GRAND CHAMPION at International Showing with TICA, being the first Bengal Adult to have achieved this together with a EUROPE NORTH REGIONAL TITLE in 2006.

Since the time our website site was launched, much more has happened, so please see our Studs page and our Queens page for information about our new additions to the Springmeadow Bengals family, and exciting information about Sisco and our other beautiful Bengal cats.  Have fun!

About Bengal Cats

Bengal cats are the result of the hybridization of wild Asian Leopard Cats (ALCs) and domestic cats to create a domesticated, exotic-looking pet.  The early generation hybrid cats are not actually referred to as Bengals unless they are four (F4) or more generations from the Asian Leopard Cat in the pedigree.  Jean Mill, of Millwood Bengals in America, originated and developed the beautiful Bengal breed during the 1970s.  Since that time, the breed has continued to progress and has become very popular with cat owners around the world.

Although the domestic Bengal is similar in appearance to the Asian Leopard cat, its temperament is completely domestic.  Our Bengal cats have proven to be the sweetest natured cats we have ever met and we are confident that you will agree.

Many of us have imagined owning a wild cat, but for obvious reasons, would never actually act on this desire.  Bengal cats offer us the opportunity to feel as though we have a bit of the wild living with us in our homes.  As you can see from the photo below of our queen Jade, daughter of Spothaven Winona of Starbengals x CH Millwood Italian Filigree, these cats bear the distinctive markings of the Asian Leopard Cats they are descended from.  Bengals have beautiful plush pelts that feel like silky satin and appear to have been dusted with gold glitter, a trait unique to the breed.  They have large bones with bodies that are quite muscular creating a very athletic appearance.  Bengal bodies are long, with medium length, thick tails, and their heads and faces bear markings very similar to their wild ancestors.  At maturity, the Bengal female will generally weigh between 7-9 lbs, with males weighing between 14-20 lbs.
